Officials Have Confirmed Madonna Is Adopting A 3-Year-Old Girl,Mercy, From Malawi

"The adoption is going ahead," Malawi's Director of Child Welfare Services, Penstone Kilemb. "It has been at an advanced stage for some time."

Mercy will be Madonna's fourth child, and second child from the African country. David Banda, 3, was adopted in 2006.

The girl is from the "Mchinji Home of Hope orphanage. She has no father and mother, they both died...We finished the assessment yesterday in readiness for the courts next week," an official at the ministry of Gender and Child Development told Reuters.

Madonna is due in court Monday. Her rep Liz Rosenberg has yet to comment.

Madonna Is Ready To Adopt Another Child From Malawi

Madonna is ready to adopt another child from the African country of Malawi.

According to breaking reports, an official at the Malawi welfare department has confirmed the 50-year-old singer has filed paperwork in hopes of adding to her brood.

With Madge reportedly planning a trip to Malawi this weekend, her adoption request could make it to the hearing phase as soon as this Monday (March 30).

Talking about her desire to give son, David Banda, a fellow Malawian sibling, Madonna said, "Many people - especially our Malawian friends - say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister. It's something I have been considering but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the government."

One possible roadblock in the "Like A Prayer" singer's way is said to be her recent divorce and fling with 22-year-old model Jesus Luz.

"Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes," a senior official from Malawi's Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Development told press. "Her relationships may negatively affect the adoption of Mercy."

The pop superstar has prematurely dropped $200K on furniture, including a pink crib and highchair, from a children's store in San Francisco for the new Hollywood home she intends to buy with hubby Nick Cannon.

A source close to the diva reveals she has made an offer on the David Saperstein estate in the exclusive western L.A. neighborhood of Holmby Hills. Her neighbors would be the Beckham brood and Hugh Hefner.

The French Chateau-style mansion, which has been on the market for months at the asking price of $125 million, is a minipalace with Italian marble walls, French limestone floors, gold-embossed leather wall coverings, a nine-car garage, ballroom, private running track and movie screening room.

"It's 45,000 square feet and looks like a European castle," says the insider. "It's so big, it can't even be called a mansion - it's similar to Buckingham Palace!"

But the surroundings aren't quite enough for Mariah. She's planning on putting in a few touches of her own, most notably the nursery. Says our source, "She has asked [interior decorator] Kenneth Bordewick to advise on her new home and has requested an all-pink nursery. It's going to be over the top!"

Despite plans for the baby room, there is no indication that the singer is pregnant. But an insider tells us, "Mariah has tossed around the idea of adopting."

Her husband, meanwhile, seems to have a different time line when it comes to having a brood.

Nick, who at age 28 is 10 years Mariah's junior, recently joked that he was planning on kids "soon. Like a couple [of] years soon!"

Jenny McCarthy Reveals Body After Baby Secrets

Jenny McCarthy's weight ballooned to more than 200 pounds after the birth of her son Evan, now 6 – but the actress got back on track through smaller meals, a diet overhaul and a yoga regimen that left her boyfriend Jim Carrey feeling jealous.

"[Weight Watchers] taught me portion control and to be conscious of what I put into my mouth," the outspoken McCarthy, 36, tells Shape magazine for its May issue.

Three years ago, McCarthy switched to a gluten- and dairy-free diet, and now a typical day's menu includes egg whites, fish, fresh fruit and veggies. Between meals, she noshes on "those little packets of nuts from Starbucks."

Now four years into their relationship, the actress likens dating boyfriend Jim Carrey, 46, to "having a front-row seat to the best play you can imagine – every day."

To spice up their relationship, McCarthy taught Carrey to play poker, and the couple have begun hosting poker nights, much to the delight of their friends. Only, she says, "He's got the worst poker face. He jumps up and down when he has a good hand."

Another activity McCarthy is attempting to teach her limber-limbed boyfriend: yoga. "I've seen him eyeing my toned arms," she says. "I give it six months before I find him twisted into a pretzel!"

Three-year-old Kingston Rossdale was sporting his headset microphone as he listened to his dad, Gavin Rossdale, live in performance on Wednesday. Gavin was performing for 104.3 MY FM at the Donate Life Concert Series for L.A. LIVE. Kingston was spotted pretending to sing into a microphone and enjoying a blue lollipop that left its mark all over his mouth.

Gavin recently reported that Kingston will be joining him when he starts his tour in April: “I take Kingston for as long as he wants, so I try to drum that into him: ‘Are you ready to go on tour? Are you ready to go on tour?’ It’s going to be fun!” Gavin added that life on the road will be a bit different with a toddler, saying, “You gotta see where all the zoos are in the towns you’re playing.”

Jon And Kate Plus 8 Sparks Controversy!

Most of the finale was typical footage of the family but the last 10 minutes of the show were, by far, the most exciting.

If you’re a fan of the show, you’ve probably heard the rumors that Jon is cheating on Kate and that he’s not happy with the way things are in his family. The latter part of that sentence was evident as Jon and Kate sat on the infamous couch and poured their hearts out to America last night.

Whether or not we see Jon, Kate and their 8 children again hangs in the balance of whether or not Kate and Jon Gosselin can come to an agreement. It is extremely clear that Jon does not want to do another season but Kate does.

Jon said in last night’s episode that he always has to be Jon and Kate Plus 8 – he can never just be Jon, and that’s really hard for him to deal with. Kate pointed out that the show has allowed Jon to maintain a full-time job at home but he insisted that that was not necessarily a good thing.

After being ridiculed by his wife for 4 seasons, it’s not surprising that Jon doesn’t want to spend his time at home with her.

So, will there be a Jon and Kate Plus 8 Season 5?

That question has not been answered yet – but we’re pretty sure TLC is willing to pay big bucks for the Gosselin’s return to TV.

Good news for fans is that Kate usually gets her way – so there will be another season.

Jaime Pressly Says Splitting Up With Her Ex-Fiance Was The Best Thing For Son Dezi James

Splitting up with ex-fiancé Eric Calvo while their 22-month-old son Dezi James is still just a baby was the best thing for all involved, says Jaime Pressly in the April issue of Redbook.

“The parents stay together for the kids, but the kids know that you don’t want to be together,” she explains. “The kids would rather you be happy — and separate — than together and miserable.”

She speaks from experience; Jaime’s own parents parted ways while she was a teenager, and she is hopeful that Dezi will know less strife than she did as a child.

“I don’t want my kid to grow up around two parents who just don’t work. Eric and I take him to the park, we take him to eat. We do things together so he’s with us as a family, so he knows Mommy and Daddy still love each other, that it just didn’t work out.”

Timing was also a concern for the former couple. “I didn’t want to wait until he was older and it affected him more,” Jaime, 31, explains. “I was 14, in hormone hell, and in my first year of high school – and I knew my parents were going to separate before they did…They weren’t happy.”

Although she has full custody Jaime is quick to clarify: She is not a single parent. “Eric is involved – if I need him to take care of Dezi, he’s there at the drop of a dime.”

While Dezi is still too young for overnight visits, he sees his dad every day that Eric is in town. Adds Jaime, “Eric’s very much a part of his life; he’s a great father. We make sure that no matter what happens, Dezi is okay and protected and knows that Mom and Daddy love him.”

Britney Spears Pays Over $400,000 To End Her Divorce

Britney Spears dramatic turnaround from a troubled personal life and stalled career has come with a cost of $2.7 million in legal fees, the Los Angeles Times reports.

A sizeable chunk of the total was the $417,000 price tag for legally ending her 2 ½-year marriage to Kevin Federline, and the subsequent custody battle over their children.

Attorneys for the singer's father Jamie Spears filed a document Monday showing how much his court-ordered control of her business and personal affairs has cost so far. Fees were split among 17 lawyers and firms, including $1 million for Spears's own attorneys.

That amount, said the attorneys, covered the "complex and challenging" issues the singer has faced in getting her life back on track. "Since the initiation of the conservatorship, as a result of the concerted efforts of Mr. Spears as well as the professionals involved, all aspects of Ms. Spears's life have been stabilized and continue to improve," lawyer Geraldine Wyle wrote.

She added that the singer's mental health continued "to mend," that she had regained "substantial visitation" with her children and that her career "has been revitalized."

Nicole Richie showed off a growing baby bump at a fundraiser for the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation Monday in Hollywood.

Asked about tabloid rumors that she is expecting twins, her beau's brother Benji Madden joked, "She already has twins." Richie, 27, then added, "I have twins. People popped out of me yesterday."

Richie and Joel Madden, 31 - who welcomed daughter Harlow last January - announced they were expecting their second child last month.

Asked by Ryan Seacrest Monday if the two are planning on having "a whole bunch" of kids, Joel Madden said, "I have no idea."

Richie recently said she has no idea if she'll ever wed Joel.

"I don't know about the future," she told Japanese ViVi magazine. "I make it a custom not to plan the future. I may plan to and I may not."

Madonna's lifestyle may get in the way of her plans to adopt another child from Africa.

Malawi's adoption officials say Madge's sizzling fling with 22-year-old Brazilian hunk Jesus Luz - and her rumored hookup with Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez - may doom her desire to adopt 3-year-old Mercy James.

"Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes," said a senior official from Malawi's Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Development, noting her split from hubby Guy Ritchie.

"[Madonna's] relationships may negatively affect the adoption of Mercy," the official said.

"The news she is linked to another woman's husband and a young man less than half her age makes us question her morals."

Officials are unhappy the 50-year-old Material Mom, who adopted toddler David Banda in Malawi in 2006, flaunted her relationship with Luz in a recent racy W Magazine spread.

Simon Chisale, Malawi's child welfare chief, said morality plays a big part in the adoption process.
"We do not only look at the material issues, but also the moral standing of prospective adoptive parents, because we do not want our children's morals to be corrupted," Chisale said.
Still, he said he doubted Madonna's social whirl would affect the outcome of her adoptive process.

"We do not apply the law retroactively," he said.

New mom Brooke Mueller says that she and Charlie Sheen are playing “favorites” with their newborn twins Max and Bob.

“We have favorites already,” Brooke tells Extra, later adding, “But they’re fake favorites. They’re not real favorites.”

She says that she and Charlie have already noticed big differences in the 1-week-old twins’ personalities.

“Max [is my favorite]. Max is sweet and quiet,” Brooke shares. “And Bob is kind of loud and cries a lot like his father.”

Brooke may be a first time mom, but Max and Bob are the fourth and fifth kids for Charlie. The proud dad says of the new additions to the family: “We’re thrilled. Everyone’s doing great. Bob’s great. Max is great. Mom is great obviously, look at her.”

The Two and Half Men star adds a special message to his fans: “Thank you for the outpouring of love and support and well wishes. We really appreciate it. It’s an exciting time for us. Be careful what you wish for. Here we are….”

Elaine Cassidy may have the leading role in one of spring's most highly-anticipated series, CBS's Harper's Island.

The Irish actress is pregnant with her first child with her husband, U.K. actor and producer Stephen Lord.

Cassidy, 29 has been temporarily living in California to film the show, while Lord, 36, finished up a two-year stint on the popular British soap East Enders.

Harper's Island premieres April 6. After having left her family and friends to live in Los Angeles, Cassidy's character, Abby Mills, returns to the island where her mother was murdered to attend a wedding. A series of murders unfold throughout the show's season.

David Letterman Ties The Knot!!

David Letterman and his longtime girlfriend, Regina Lasko, have gotten hitched! Letterman announced the news during the Monday taping of his CBS Late Show.

"On Thursday, at 3 p.m., March 19, 2009, at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau, Montana, I was married to Regina Lasko," Letterman said about 20 minutes into the show, before he read the "Top 10" list.

"Regina and I began dating in February of 1986, and I said, 'Well, things are going pretty good, let's just see what happens in about ten years...'" he continued.

"…I had avoided getting married pretty good for, like, 23 years, and I -- honestly, whether this happened or not -- I secretly felt that men who were married admired me…like I was the last of the real gunslingers, you know what I'm saying?'" he joked.

The family's truck got stuck in the mud en route to the courthouse, he explained. Letterman "walked two miles back to the house in 50 mph wind," he said. "It's not Beverly Hills -- it's Montana. "And the whole way, I'm thinking, 'See, smart ass, see you try to get married and this is what happens,'" he went on.

After getting his car from home, five-year-old son Harry says, "'Are we still going into town?'...he got very upset because mom had told him if I wasn't back in an hour, the deal was off."

Letterman and Lasko -- who began dating in 1986 when Lasko worked for him on his show -- welcomed Harry in November 2003.

In 2007, Letterman told Oprah Winfrey that his son has made a "huge difference" in his life -- but the boy doesn't always get his daddy's sense of humor.

Said Letterman, "Mommy has to tell him a lot that I'm just teasing."

Letterman was previously married for seven years to his college sweetheart Michelle Cook.

Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott Give Son Liam A Car-Themed Birthday

After missing his birthday party the previous weekend due to a high fever, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's son Liam was treated to a car-themed encore on Sunday.

Together with his mom, dad, 9-month-old sister Stella and 16 party guests, Liam celebrated his second birthday at his new home outside Los Angeles with the help of toys from the movie Cars, a car-shaped cake (from Beverly Hills bakery Hansen's Cakes) and a performance by his favorite music group, The Jumpitz.

"Liam is obsessed with the animated movie Cars," says his mom, "and I made him a little red car racing jumpsuit with a Liam name patch on it."

Liam and his friends also enjoyed a blow-up ball pit in his living room and a small petting zoo in the backyard.

The Jumpitz, a five-member children's performance group, helped the intimate group sing "Happy Birthday" to Liam before the cake cutting.

Says Spelling: "The cutest was when he got to dig his hands into the giant red car cake and Stella was right into it as well!" At the end of the two-hour shindig, guests left with gift bags by Silver Spoons! – each with personalized bag tags by Mabel's Labels.

Willis was previously married to Moore, with whom he has three children, Rumer, 20, Scout, 17, and Tallulah, 15. They split in 2000 after 13 years of marriage but have remained friends. He even has referred to Moore and Kutcher as his "extended family."

Andrew Firestone & His Wife Welcome A Baby Boy!

Former Bachelor star Andrew Firestone and his wife Ivana have welcomed a baby boy.

The boy, who weighed 8 lbs., was born Saturday at 6:48 a.m. They named their son Adam Brooks after Firestone's father, Brooks.

"Ivana and my son are doing well," he tells Us. "Everyone is healthy and happy. I am ecstatic about being a father."

Madonna Tells Her Nanny To Leave Immediately

The nanny in sole charge of Madonna's adopted son David Banda has left suddenly -- despite plans for the star to adopt another baby from Malawi.

It was revealed yesterday that Australian born Angela, had handed in her notice, only to be told by the 50-year-old singer to leave before the notice period was complete.

A source said: 'Angela is distraught. Madonna told her the news two hours before she was due to go on her annual month-long leave. ‘Angela was incredibly upset and very surprised because she had been told that Madonna is due to adopt a second baby from Malawi very soon.’

‘The rumour is that Madonna was furious that Angela was leaving and dismissed her before she had the chance to complete her full notice,’ a source who works closely with the singer said last night.

‘All Madonna’s employees work incredibly long hours, so it’s no surprise that Angela had had enough. If you work for Madonna you are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There’s no such thing as a weekend.’

Sources say that because of the star’s punishing work schedule she is hugely dependent on a team of carers who look after her three children – Lourdes, Rocco and David.

Last night a spokesman for Madonna said: ‘I do not comment on household issues but I can assure you that David and Madonna’s other two children are very well taken care of at all times.’

Jade Goody Dies In Her Sleep

Jade Goody, the British reality TV star whose battle against cancer had been followed around the world, has died.

She passed away in her sleep early Sunday – Mother's Day in the U.K. Max Clifford, her publicist and friend, confirmed the news.

"She had been pretty much asleep for the last 24 hours," he says, adding she died "just before 4 o'clock this morning."

Her husband Jack Tweed – who she married in a ceremony filmed by a British TV channel in February – and mother Jackiey Budden were at her bedside, Clifford adds.

Clifford says Budden told him, "My beautiful daughter has gone to sleep, has gone," when they spoke soon afterwards. He adds, "Jackiey is obviously as you would expect a mom to be at the loss of her daughter. We've all known it was coming but she's devastated."

Goody, 27, rose to fame on the British version of the reality show Big Brother in 2002, and was rarely out of the British newspapers and gossip magazines in the years that followed. But her story went global when she discovered she was suffering from cervical cancer – while appearing on the India version of the reality show in August.

Then, in February, she learned that the disease had spread and she only had a short time to live. Since then, her achievement has been to raise awareness of her cancer and how prevention could help others, Clifford said.

He adds, "Her legacy will be that a lot of women owe their lives to Jade Goody because of her public announcement and battle against cervical cancer," which has led to increased knowledge of it and the screening necessary to catch it. "She has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world, from Australia to America and everywhere else."

Goody lived so much of her life in the public eye – no more so than in the last few months when her wedding was televised and photos sold to a magazine. That was followed by her recent baptism in the hospital with her sons Bobby, 5, and Freddy, 4.

Shortly after the ceremony, Goody headed home to Upshire, Essex, where her battle ended early Sunday. In a few months, a book about her last months is set to be published.
